There is good business and there is bad business.

It is bad business when

  • the government picks winners and losers
  • the government makes entrepreneurialism difficult
  • the government takes peoples’ money and gives it to politically favored groups
  • the business itself is immoral (e.g., kidnapping, prostitution…)

Consider the barriers to you providing education to Ogden’s youth

  • The government is picking your competitor to be a guaranteed winner (i.e., Ogden School District, OSD)
  • People are forced by the government to pay for your competitor, but not for you
  • Even though your competitor does a poor job (>75% of the kids perform at below grade level proficiency in math), your competitor does not suffer a loss in market share for his poor results and you gain precious little advantage
